A Modern Refresh for an Iconic Vail Restaurant
Website Redesign

A Modern Refresh for an Iconic Vail Restaurant
Sweet Basil has anchored Vail dining for decades, but the website lagged far behind the room. I rebuilt it to load fast, read beautifully, and stay current without a developer in the loop.
Sweet Basil
Overview
A custom CMS now lets staff update menus, news, and galleries in minutes. New photography, restrained animation, and a refined palette carry the same standard online that the room sets in person.
I audited the brand and the old site first. The gaps were consistent: buried reservations, no storytelling, menus that were painful to update. Working with the Sweet Basil team, I restructured everything around what guests actually come for: reservations, menus, and private events.

The Challenge
The original site loaded slowly, navigated badly, and looked years out of date. Guests struggled to find the basics, starting with how to book a table.

The harder constraint: match an award-winning dining room’s standards while handing full content control to the restaurant team, with no developer needed for routine updates.
Sweet Basil
The Solution
A mobile-first design with intuitive navigation and rich visuals. A streamlined reservation flow, a cleaner private-event inquiry path, and CMS collections for menus, news, and galleries.

Speed and SEO came from unglamorous work: optimized assets, structured data, accessible markup. Then I trained the staff, so the site stays theirs, not mine.

Performance Results
Sweet Basil has stayed a retained client for 5 years, built in a 12-week sprint from concept to launch. The team now runs menus, news, and galleries entirely on their own, with no developer in the loop.

Menus, News & Galleries
Guests noticed the mobile experience first. The staff noticed how fast menu and photo updates got. Both were the point.
